Why choose an epoxy floor?

Bare concrete is porous. It soaks up oil, dusts as it wears and is hard to keep clean. An epoxy coating seals the slab under a continuous, hard-wearing layer that sweeps and mops easily, resists many common spills, and makes a garage or workshop look far more finished. Light-coloured systems can also brighten a space noticeably.

  • Easy to clean — no grout lines or open pores for dust and oil to settle into.
  • Durable — suited to foot traffic, vehicles and workshop use when the right system is chosen for the job.
  • Seals the slab — helps stop the concrete dusting and reduces staining.
  • Plenty of looks — solid colours, decorative flake or high-gloss metallic finishes.

Typical uses

Most of our epoxy enquiries are for home garages, but epoxy also suits sheds, workshops, home gyms, laundries, storerooms, showrooms, offices and light commercial floors. Flake finishes are the practical favourite for garages because the texture hides dust and marks; metallic finishes are more of a feature floor for interiors and showrooms.

Epoxy is generally recommended for undercover areas. Many epoxies can yellow or chalk under strong UV, so for exposed outdoor areas in Perth's sun we'll usually suggest a UV-stable topcoat, a different coating, or resin bound aggregate or concrete resurfacing instead.

Our epoxy flooring process

  1. Inspect and quote. We check the slab for moisture, cracks, old coatings and contamination, talk through finishes, and give you a written quote.
  2. Diamond grinding. The surface is ground to open up the concrete and remove laitance, stains and loose material, using dust extraction with HEPA-filtered vacuums.
  3. Repairs. Cracks, chips and holes are filled and levelled so they don't telegraph through the finish.
  4. Prime and base coat. A primer and pigmented base coat are applied to suit the system.
  5. Flake or metallic layer. Flakes are broadcast into the wet coat, or metallic pigments worked through for a marbled effect.
  6. Clear topcoat. A protective clear coat is applied; anti-slip additive can be included where needed.
  7. Cure and handover. We explain when the floor can take foot traffic and vehicles, and how to look after it.

Preparation is the step that decides whether a floor lasts. Coatings rolled onto unground concrete are much more likely to peel, which is why we grind every floor before coating.

What affects the price?

Size of the area, the condition of the concrete, the amount of repair work, any old coatings that need removing, and the finish and system you choose. Send a few photos through the quote form and we can give you a much more accurate figure.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an epoxy garage floor take?

Most residential garages take a few days including grinding, repairs, coats and cure time between them. The exact timing depends on the system and the weather, and we confirm it in your quote.

When can I drive on my new epoxy floor?

Foot traffic is usually possible sooner than vehicles. Cure times vary with the product and temperature, so we give you specific times for foot traffic and vehicles at handover.

Is epoxy slippery?

Gloss epoxy can be slippery when wet. Flake finishes add some texture, and an anti-slip additive can be mixed into the topcoat for extra grip.

Can you epoxy over an old painted or coated floor?

Usually the old coating needs to be ground off first so the new system bonds to sound concrete. We will check during the inspection.

Will my epoxy floor crack?

Epoxy will not stop a slab from moving. Existing cracks are repaired during preparation, but if the slab moves again a crack can reappear. We will talk you through any risk areas before we start.
